Health Series: week 1 - Inching forward

yes, inching forward; step by step (literally at times). i've been empowered to give this all my best effort. so here goes on my exercise and food update:

start date of all this: mar 26 2011

mar 26 : 4k run (30 mins) + Jillian workout level 1
mar 30 : 4k run (30 mins)
apr  2  :  4k run (30 mins)

the picture above is a pretty good representation of my first week of running. lets just say its been tough least to say. BUT good and rewarding. i love the feeling of running with the breeze of the wind and the sweet smell of nature. its awesome. a natural high of endorphins and adrenaline. my running goal? i want to run at least 2 races by July.

in terms of foodwise? lets say it hasn't been so hot. confession: i didn't write down my food intake this past week; however, I WILL do that this week. i know as soon as i am more conscious of my food intake, i tend to it eat healthier. there's something powerful of writing things down. an accountability i believe. anyways, i am not a stickler to diets, but more eating healthy like more veggies, water, fruits, less snack foods. i always tell my patients about diets after a heart attack is to not cut all your favorite foods, but to take things in moderation. take your healthy foods but eat those chips once in a while. or that tub of ice cream.  i am going to take my own advice this week.

i love this verse from 1 Corinthians 10:31 So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God. it reminds to think about why i am doing the things i do. i believe God gave us our health. its a gift. not to be taken for granted but to be treasured. and so as I am getting "healthier", i am relying on His strength and keeping my eyes focused on Him while I do this.

on another note, i really like this poster. the baby is cute, but i also love the quote.
