Facing Adversity

Yesterday, I joined along with hundreds at the Relay for Life in Nepean to fundraise money for the Canadian Cancer Society, for new facilities, and for new research studies. But moreover, my participation in this relay, came from a more personal reason. About two and half years ago, my father was diagnosed with colorectal cancer. Thankfully, by God's grace, he recovered quickly and is well today. I don't usually share this with a lot of people, because to be truthful, it was a difficult time for my father, our family and me personally. But, yesterday, I was reminded of how important it is to share this story. Perhaps, because I have been taught to always be strong in adversity or to be professional when it comes to dealing with illness, I never have really been able to verbalize sometimes just how difficult and painful these situations can be. As I looked around yesterday, some have lost mothers, fathers, relatives, and friends to cancer, but all have been impacted in some way by this illness. So, I am slowely learning to use my experience to help others, and as I walked the victory lap yesterday with my family in support of my father, I realized just how important it is to support each other during these times of illness and health.

One of God's promise that I held dearly during this time was from Jeremiah 29:11.
"For I know the plans, I have for you", declares the Lord,
"plans to prosper you and not to harm you", "plans to give you hope and a future".
- Trust Him and He will deliver you.-
